Okay, here goes a brief over view. After creating the pic and before applying the final textures, I create 3 copies of the image with 3 different levels of exposure, just like you would with taking a picture. One midtone, one light tone and one dark tone. I then use Photomatix to tone map the image just as I would a photograph that I was converting to HD. Then I reload the new image into my art software and add the final touches. This gives the art more depth and a higher range of colors, although it looks better in person, some computer monitors won't allow for the entire scope of colors. Does that make sense?
