Description A selection of undead miniatures from my vast collection

1 Bats, these are stock bats from the Warhammer bat-swarm blister mounted on individual bases from use in Mordheim. I used flesh tones on the bats wings and faces to keep them from looking too plain

2 Ghouls, these are stock Warhammer ghouls. Rather than paint them with pink skin like in the rule books, I decided to use several browns and pale flesh followed by a yellow wash to give it a sickly tint. Since these ghouls get mostly used mordheim I painted the stone being held by the ghoul in the centre to represent wyrdstone

3 I replaced the blade from the wraith’s scythe with one from the plastic zombie sprue. Because black is almost impossible to highlight convincingly I opted to paint the wraith’s cloak very dark purple. I achieved this by using a purple wash over subtle grey highlights.

4 I’ve always loved skeletons ever since I saw Ray Harryausen’s ‘Jason and The Golden Fleece’ film as a child. I call this little group ‘The children of the hydra teeth’ after the skeletons from the film. I picked up a bunch of Greek style shields second hand (possibly Ral Patha) and went about adding them to some plastic skeletons, the shields are lead which makes the plastic models a little top heavy. After I finished painting I added some decals from the old plastic skeleton boxes to the shields.

5 This is plastic Carrion is from a board game by another company (I think it was called ‘Dark World’ despite the model lacking detail in some places the feathers where really well done and I immediately saw this model’s potential. The model’s original claws where rather odd looking (I think it was originally intended to perch on a roof top) so after a quick rummage round in my bitz box I replaced them genestealer claws and mounted the whole thing on a flying base, which makes it look like it’s swooping down on an enemy. I decided to paint the model to look something like the dead bird on the front of the Mordheim Rule book. The feathers where highlighted in dark blues and given a wash of black ink, this made the model look a little glossy and one day I might get around to giving it a coat of mat varnish to cancel it out.

6 These two are classics. The necromancer is from the range that accompanied 1st edition talisman and his familiar is from the old chaos familiars range

1 and 3 are my favorites here. I wish I could paint as well as you.

Those bats looks great, I would love to have a couple in that color scheme.
