Description So this guy is a copperhead... Well known throughout the united states. I had been photographing
a cluster of mushrooms for a few minutes when I turned to my right and saw this guy sitting about
a foot away... He had blended in perfectly with the leaf litter. Fortunately copperheads, in spite of
their bad reputation, are rather docile. I snapped some shots and left him to his sunbathing.

This is an amazing shot, especially when you consider the story that lead you to the opportunity of taking it! I like it very much!

Thank you very much!

Yeah, he always had one eye on me at all times.
Quite the vigilant viper.

Lovely!

What an adventure! might I ask, how did you react when you understood
that you had a venemous snake right beside you? XD

Thank you!

Well, I was surprisingly calm actually... I looked
to my right and there he was... My pulse did quicken
a bit though. I don't really have an overwhelming
fear of snakes, which is a good thing: if I had
jumped or made a sudden movement, it would have been
more likely that he would have bitten me.

Yes, a quick move qould have been.. not so smart! XD

The thing is, you (at least I, who are not scared of many things, I'm too curious) often become surprisingly calm when these sort of things happen. Many times, becoming scared and moving is the worst thing you can do. The little critters are scared as well, and if you you panic, they panic and attack in self defense. Most creatures would try not to waste energy on self defense, given they think there's another way out of course. ^^

Again: beautiful specimen, beautiful picture!

Yes! exactly! XD

That's exactly how I am... Panicking
never helps when you're dealing with
wild animal. Not to mention I, like
you, am not particularly afraid of
snakes or most any wild animal... All
I have is a great respect for each of
them and their place in the ecosystem.

And once again thanks a lot my friend!

Well.... this is just brilliant.. I had to look twice to see the snake, hidden between his own colours. Realy nice shot!

Thank you very much!

Yeah, he really blends in well,
which is why I was so surprised
when I saw him sitting next to
me... I'm lucky I didn't get bitten.
But I tried to show the amazing
camouflage he had with this shot
so people could see how hard it
would be to see him, even if he
is right next to you

Brrrr... I don't like snakes..luckely they are rare in Belgium.. But he's realy beautiful. How could you stay that calm?

Haha, well, I personally don't mind snakes, and if he
was going to bite me he would have done it the moment
I settled down to photograph the mushrooms beside him.
So I just took the opportunity to take a few shots and
then move on.

That is a PERFECT shot. This is the kind I expect of a David Attenborough documentary. Shame you didn't film him.

Thank you so much! That really means
a lot.

Haha, it would have been hard to film him
since I had no tripod(Both my tripods broke last week, sadly)
It was hard enough just getting this shot.
