Before I color a piece, I get flashes of what I think it should look like. Sometimes there are more than one flash. For this cover I offered up two if not more ideas for the imagery. I think we even went with a different one than these if I remember correctly. Such great artwork to work with.
Getting the opportunity to work with John Watkiss again (see Trigger) was a delight. His artwork is amazing in my opinion. Also, getting the chance to work with writer Bruce Jones, whom I've always adored, was so great. Bruce has worked on some perennial properties that formed a great deal of what I like to do with art/writing/self publishing. His work on Creepy and Eerie for Warren helped solidify my love of black and white comics, and his Twisted Tales and Aliens Worlds work for my hometown Comic publisher, Pacific Comics, hit me just at the right time when I was really getting into comic books. Cap it all off with working with DC's Vertigo offices and editors Jonathan Vankin, Pornsak Pichetshote and Mark Doyle... you have yourself a pretty cool reimagining of Deadman.
