Well I overcome the need for ND filter by shooting multiple exposure photos and then combining them in Photomatix or using Photoshop CS2 HDR combine to get an HDR image.

I tried your technique using the graduated grey layer..it works pretty well too.

You should really try the HDR technique..just search this website for HDR to see what I mean!
