Born and raised in Houston but now I live south west of it in a place called Land of the Sugar (was once the headquarters of the Imperial Sugar factory)

Nice! And that is so true.
I'm actually the opposite--born in California, but moved to Texas at about 4 months old and as of right now still living there.

It's mostly an unfair opinion, since I've lived most of my life in southeast Texas, but I like it there. I'm actually fond of the humidity, however I just don't like that there's lots of chemical plants. I've been to the Hill Country a couple of times, I've found it to be okay, but too dry.

I'm the opposite. Born in Cali and after a few years in Washington was sent to TX.
I must of gone to the wrong part of Texas though, 'cause it seems that everyone else loves it and I downright hated living there (hot weather XP)

I've only been back there a handful of times, and the last time was in the fall and Hurricane Waldo was on its way (this was in '85). But yep, I imagine it gets horribly hot, especially in the mid part of it.

Not just the heat, the humidity! I can hardly leave the house in the summer.
That and the churches... I don't think I truly hated religion until I moved to Texas.

The heat is bad enough anywhere without the humidity. We have it pretty bad here in Cali during the summer, but not as bad as other places. Like Florida, which I love any other time, but it's horrible in summer.

I prefer Cali summers. But I used to live near the ocean, so you get that nice cool breeze going and everything's good.
Florida summers are some of the worst.

Its so nice on the coast! Of course now I'm all landlocked... but its all good, nice and chilly for me, I can actually survive a summer.
Oh you poor thing! How on earth do people breathe in that kind of weather?

HUZZAH FOR US DISPLACED TEXANS!
Drives me crazy when my bloody teachers constantly snipe at my accent! They wouldn't be laughing so hard if they could hear what they sounded like.... grr....

Good Lord, I hate California accents. They overuse "like". It just sounds....stupid. Ugh. Now a Southern drawl....that just screams sophistication. My relatives from my dad's side are all Southern, which allows much Yankee-snubbing. (: It's great when my teachers snub my accent and then I get to watch the expressions on their faces when I get the highest grade in the class on all my tests and projects. Hah.
