Description
When: September 7, 2020
Where: Landgoed Hoenderdaell Anna Paulowna, The Netherlands
It is so cool to have these Birds in the Netherlands now We saw a female the year before, a young and cute individual. She wasn't as interested in people this time around as opposed to last time, and was hiding quite well making it very difficult (in a different way) to photograph her The new male didn't make a big deal out of being photographed at all, which was very cool
Species: Andean Condor (Andes Condor)
Latin name: Vultur Gryphus
Originates from the Andes mountains and adjacent Pacific coasts of western South America.
Current status: Near Threatened
Did you know:
…It is the only member of the genus Vultur, and is the largest flying Bird in the world, by combined measurement of weight and wingspan.
…The Andean Condor has a nearly featherless neck and head, of a naturally dull red color, that may flush and change color depended on the Bird’s emotional state.
…This Vulture is sexually dimorph; the male has a wattle on the neck and a large, dark-red crown or carruncle on the crown of the head. It is one of few Birds of prey where the male is larger than the female.
