Where: Safaripark De Beekse Bergen Hilvarenbeek, the Netherlands

It's almost invisible, but it was raining pretty badly. We were soaked through, cold and shivering and headed back to the car.

But we love these guys, but we're so often not loved in return So when they were visible, kind of playful, and at a distance where we could properly photograph them... Well, we ignored the cold and rain for a bit, and took advantage.

Species: African Wild or Painted Dog (Afrikaanse wilde hond)

Latin name: Lycaon Pictus

Originates from Africa.

Current status: Endangered.

Did you know:

…The African Wild Dog is known in Germany as “Picasso Hund”, another take on the Painted Dog, but sounding a lot more fun.

…They differ from their other Canid relatives in that they have four toes on their front feet, instead of five.
