Description
When: August 11, 2022
Where: Dierenpark de Oliemeulen Tilburg, the Netherlands
There were multiple individuals who all looked very different, which I thought was pretty neat.
Species: Common Northern Bea (Noordelijke boa)
Latin name: Boa (Constrictor) Imperator
Originates from Mexico, Central America and South America east of the Andes Mountains.
Did you know:
…The Common Northern Boa is nonvenous constrictor also known as Northern Boa, Columbian Boa or Common Boa.
…It looks nearly identical to the Red-Tailed Boa (Boa Constrictor) and is often mistaken for it. You can set it apart as the Common Northern Boa has fewer dorsal and anal scales, while th Red-Tailed Boa also has a darker end of the tail, leaning towards a red color.
…Because it is such a wide-ranging Snake, it’s appearance can differ greatly depending on the specific locality.
…They are commonly kept in captivity, and can be bred in a variety of different colors.
