Description
When: June 6, 2020
Where: Faunapark Flakkee Nieuwe-Tonge, The Netherlands
The Prevost's Squirrels we've seen so far in zoos, tend to stay still as statues. Now, we know the ones in this zoo don't - they've born babies after all. And we see and hear them move. But step in sight and aim your camera and they squeak and hide... So, you have to be just as sneaky
Species: Prevost’s or Asian Tri-Colored Squirrel (Prevostklappereekhoorn)
Latin name: Callosciurus Prevostii
Originates from the Thai-Malay peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and nearby other, smaller islands.
IUCN status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…The Prevost’s Squirrel is a diurnal Squirrel, who mostly stays in the trees and only occasionally moves on the ground.
…Even though they face habitat loss and hunting as threats to their survival, because they’re able to live in somewhat disturbed habitats and are known to visit gardens and plantations while staying common and widespread, they considered to not be threatened.
