Description
When: May 16, 2020
Where: Faunapark Flakkee Nieuwe-Tonge, The Netherlands
It's not easy photographing the boys; they like to keep a close eye on the zoo keepers and when food arrives (one is a synonym for the other) and they sit very, very close to the fencing.
You have to sit in he right spot to even get them on camera...
Species: Jungle Cat (Moeras of Rietkat)
Latin name: Felis Chaus
Originates from southern China in the east, through Southeast and Central Asia, to th Nile Valley in the west.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…At times, the Jungle Cat is also called Jungle Lynx (Moeraslynx) due to the small tufts of the ears. However it is not a member of the Lynx genus.
…The Jungle Cat is the largest of the living Felis species.
… Their clauws are equal-sized on both fore and hind legs, which makes climbing down trees as easily as up.
…Though never domesticated, a small number of Jungle Cats have been found among the cat mummies of Ancient Egypt, suggesting that they may have been used to control rodent populations.
