If you could see the industrial look of the ceiling of this part of the aviary - lots of pipes and such - you'd be as amazed as we are that this turned out looking pretty natural

Of course, for once the Roller worked with us, sitting in a better spot than normal (for those few seconds it lasted!).

Species: Lilac-Breasted Roller (Vorkstaartscharrelaar)

Latin name: Coracias Caudatus

Originates from sub-Saharan Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula.

Current status: Least Concern

Did you know:

…Both sexes of the Lilac-Breasted Roller are similar; young birds don’t have the long tail feathers the mature ones have.

…The species is the national bird of both Botswana and Kenya.
