Almost a year ago, we saw our first ever baby North American Porcupette The 'Pette didn't make it easy on us, and we'd seen plenty of photos of the tiny one, but he didn't really want to be seen (especially photographed) by us. Finally, FINALLY we saw him good and well and nursing which is just too cute

Species: North American Porcupine (Oerzon of Noord-Amerikaans boomstekelvarken)

Latin name: Erethizon Dorsatum

Originates from North America.

Current status: Least Concern

…The North American porcupine is believed to have rafted across the Atlantic from Africa to Brazil 30 million years ago, and then migrated to North America during the Great American Interchange after the Isthmus of Panama rose 3 million years ago.

…Except for the Beaver, it is the largest rodent in North America.

…The name “Porcupine” derives from the French “porcepin” meaning “spiny pig”, while its Latin name means “the animal with the irritating back”.
