Description
When: September 29, 2022
Where: Zoo Krefeld, Germany
It's not often we have a terrific moment and experience with Ungulates - they mostly do their own thing - but the way a group of these female Kudus eyed us and came all the way to the water separating us was definitely special.
Species: Greater Kudu (Grote koedoe)
Latin name: Tragelaphus Strepsiceros
Originates from eastern and southern Africa.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…While the Greater Kudu is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN and does occupy a widespread territory, it is actually sparsely populated in most areas due to declining habitat, deforestation and poaching.
…Male Greater Kudus are much larger than female, and they are also known to vocalize a lot more.
…Aside from their size and the amount of noise they make, you can distinguish a male from a female by the long beard and twisted horns only present in males.
…It is one of the largest species of Antelope.
