Description
When: June 5, 2021
Where: GaiaZoo Kerkrade, The Netherlands
We were so lucky to see the kits when we did, and so well too. Because afterwards, they hid and didn't really show themselves again... We didn't "settle" for the adults, because honestly, we love this species and really enjoy seeing them. The adults just as much as the babies Because just look how beautiful!
Species: Bat-Eared Fox (Grootoorvos of Lepelhond)
Latin name: Otocyon Megalotis
Originates from South Africa.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…The Bat-Eared Fox is predominantly monogamous.
…In contrast to other Canids, they have a reversal in parental roles, the males taking on the majority of parental care behavior.
…Some view Bat-Eared Foxes as an entirely different sort of species – the Otocyon – while others say it is in fact closely related to the true Foxes, of the genus Vulpes, and another group divides them into an outgroup which is not closely related to true Foxes at all.
