Description
When: July 24, 2021
Where: BestZOO Best, The Netherlands
I love that Maya and her son have discovered this platform - when we were allowed to stand in this spot (actually staff only but the owner offered us to stand here to take better photos), the fencing in front was no longer an issue. We don't have enough really good photos of Maya, so this makes me very happy to see her so well.
(Cameras don't do well with melanistic animals behind fencing, the photos I've seen of her were often heavily edited.)
Species: Jaguar
Latin name: Panthera Onca
Originates from the Americas.
Current status: Near Threatened
Did you know:
…On the surface, the Jaguar resembles a Leopard, but he’s larger and of sturdier build, has bigger set spots, and it’s behavioral and habitat characteristics, are more like that of a Tiger.
