Description

When: April 15, 2018

Where: Zoo Duisburg, Germany

The Black-and-White Ruffed Lemurs didn't plan to go outside, so we had to settle for seeing and photographing them from behind glass. They had the most expressive faces, with those beautiful wide eyes. This one didn't seem to expect us right then and there

Species: Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur (Zwartwitte vari)

Latin name: Varecia Variegata Variegata

Originates from Madagascar.

Current status: Critically Endangered

Did you know:

…The Black-and-White Lemur can be distinguished in three subspecies: the Variegated or Pied, the Southern or Hill’s and the Northern or White-Belted.

Haha, he is a big floofball!

Zooboomafoo was a Ring-Tailed or Sifaka I believe, but the Black-and-White-Ruffed are similar in a way

That is a great shot of this guy seeing it was done through the glass, you would think you right in front of him taking his photo. They way their eyes look, looks like they are looking right through you.

Thank you!

I think I/ we were standing pretty much in front of him - I think that's what attracted his attention. They mostly went overlooked, being darker-ish animals in an indoor enclosure (they didn't venture outside during both visits) so seeing someone intent on looking and photographing them must be quite novel
