Wip of a drawing i've had to put on hold due to other commitments.The canvas is massive already and I still plan to make it larger. lD
Hoping that when I finish this i'll be really proud of it, haha.

Oh my good gosh, that is one BIG phoenix! He's almost bigger than a dragon... @_@
Ahh, it looks lovely so far, I really like the curve of the phoenix's wings, how they make that nice arc/disk shape. Altogether it's a nice composition~
(and of course Elliot's looking as awesome as always ;D)

Phoenix's, well, phoenix form is pretty big. I wanted to make him a hard opponent for Elliot to take on.
But does he look alright for a phoenix? I didn't want to give him a shorter beak, otherwise he'd look too much like Oliver's gryphon form. But is an eagle alright? I need opinions, haha. I've never had bird characters, and you had half bird characters, so yeah. xD
Hopefully I can get working on it soon, haha.

Well you've done a wonderful job, I certainly wouldn't want to have to fight him... o_o
He looks lovely to me! I've drawn a few phoenixes myself, and I usually go with an eagle because of that longer beak. But of course, you really can use any bird you like. The egyptian phoenix (known as the bennu, if you want to look it up) is depicted as a grey heron, the Chinese version (called the fenghuang) is depicted as a pheasant or rooster, and the Slavic firebird is a peacock. So don't worry about using the wrong type of bird, there's really a lot of lovely variation in phoenix mythology. Eagles are a very good option if you're looking for a very tough, hard to beat phoenix, who can handle himself in a fight, so I think it suits him very well!

Which reminds me, I need to give Phoenix a proper name... Even though everyone just refers to him as Phoenix. I'm thinking Caine.
And as for Alexis' father, I was considering Seth. Sound good? And I'm also considering changing Oliver's name. Maybe to something more common, like Alex.
Ah yes, a good argument you make. I wanted his Phoenix form to look huge and formidable. And really the most aggressive looking birds are eagles. He stays an eagle, then.

Ahh, Caine and Seth are both very strong, powerful biblical name, I like those... but, hmm, it might be a little confusing if you have a character named Alex as well as Alexis, since those names are very similar
Eagles are very intimidating and powerful, it's a good choice!

Or you could always go to one of those baby name websites and look for names that mean certain things? Or you could google lists of the most common names out there if you really want something regular for him.

I've already looked at a bunch of different name sites, but I just like Liam and Oliver. Can't decide which one would be better. Which one do you think?

hmm, well they're both very soft, gentle sounding names, Liam and Oliver... I'm not really sure, I bet they'd both make awesome names for gryphons!
If I had to choose one, hm, I don't really know... I think personally, I do actually prefer Oliver, but it is your story, after all. Just choose whatever feels best for you! ;D

Perhaps i'll save the name Liam for another character... we'll see. Maybe for a boy who can change into a hippogriff. I'd imagine he'd be good friends with Oliver, but other than that i'm not too sure. Still gotta figure out the details yet.
And I need some other mythical creatures in there... any in particular you like? I need some more people to add to Caine's group. Female suggestions would be appreciated. xD

Ahh, gosh, I'm loving that idea, Oliver and Liam, awesome feathered buddies. When you can't settle on a name, why not use them both, right? ;D
Ahh, hmmm... well, if you want something that might be more feminine, unicorns and pegesus, are always good options... you could even have a sea serpent if you like, they can be very delicate and feminine at times, but then she'd be limited to the water, wouldn't she? :'D
Hmm, what else can I think of just off the top of my head... the chimera was a rather nasty female monster, but you might not want scary things with multiple heads... o_o
You could have werewolves, minotaur, sphinxes, manticores, harpies and yeti if you're okay having semi-humanoid beasts, but if you want to stick to more animalistic monsters there's the basilisk, cockatrice, hydra, wyvern, oriental dragons, kelpie (the demonic water horse, not the dog breed :'D), gargoyles (I don't mean the stone guys, they're actually based off a french mythical beast known as the gargouille), cerberus, selkie, kirin, questing beast (this is one of my favourite creatures from Arthurian mythology), kraken, hippocampus... hm...
There's also the super-sized roc, leviathan and behemoth, bot those guys might be a tad too big for your story... O_O
