Clouds unintentionally leave the caves, birds return when they are tired.
Day ends in gloom as the sun sets, I caress the lone pine and linger.
Gui Qu Lai Xi, Jin dynasty, Tao Yuan Ming.

the painting is referenced off a photo i took of the gulls along the Niagara fall last june. Kisshou watercolor on xuan paper.
the misty and melancholic ambiance reminds me of the essay written by Tao Yuan Ming who expressed his desire to go home after many years of struggle as a court official in the government back then. he longed for his rustic hometown although it was a poor rural village.
