I think it actually was called a wyrm in the book I used, well good to know now haha. But yeah its true I don't see much of other variety of dragons. I also like western but I think something different at times is always good. There are many other more dragons out there.

Did you know that Cockatrices are technically considered a dragon archetype too? I only know of those creatures from games like Final Fantasy 12, but I never would've guessed. It's apparently true though. X3

I'd highly recommend starting with FF9 sometime. It was the first RPG I ever played and it serves as a good general introduction to the series. It was supposed to be a sendoff to all the previous games that came before it and has a lot of elements from previous games mashed together. That and the game mechanics are simple enough to where it's not too difficult, but complex enough to give you some customization options after a while.
Not to mention it's the game that first introduced me to Dragoons so I have it to thank for that. They show up a lot in Final Fantasy and it's the most prominent series they appear in. =3

The first one I played ever was FF Mystic Quest for SNES, which is still a classic to me XD Someday I should play another FF game.

Yeah you really should, because overall that game isn't well liked because it was rather patronizing and historically it was Square's response to sales not being as high in the US, because they though RPGs were just to difficult for us. At least that's how Projared put it, so I'll just go off that for now.
Particularly Final Fantasy 9 is a lot less streamlined and open ended, the story and dialogue is a lot more compelling from what I can tell, and though the biggest problem a lot of folks have with it is the art style, it can also be one of the more unique aspects to the game. Now even with my nostalgia goggles I'm not gonna act like it's the best Final Fantasy I've played, but it's a wonderful transition game for when you're ready to play more FFs. =3
