Description Do you ever get tired of people saying "Draw me!" I have this weakness that whenever i hear that, i say "OK!" and am eventually swamped with things to draw for people... many of which i regret to say i dont get around to for ages and ages, and some i even forget about and then feel really bad about. Well no more. I'm through saying "ok," and will now start to say "no!".... unless i want to. This is the last "draw me!" that i am doing... not that it was a chore, at all, i loved doing it, not only because its a pretty girl, which yes, makes it enjoyable, but also because i decided to uses this piece to put into practice some techniques that i was reminded about by one of my favorite illustrators of this age. Check out his work (Himmapaan) and if you ever come across his Folio Red Fairy Book, by it; Not only is is gorgeously illustrated but the craftsmanship of the book is fantastic.... what am i talking about??? right, The Last Hurrah.

This is the Last Hurrah, and it was a pleasure to do. And now when people say "Draw me" ill say "No, you aren't very interesting to look at..." but with much more manners then i can use here.

Thank you. I need to start painting more men... especially grizzled old timers. I draw them a lot but never seem to put paint to paper with them in mind. As for my family... well.... yes, actually, they ARE from poland, but its a Russian family. I hope that doesn't offend you too much haha

Thank you. I decided to experiment a little and go back to something i used to do with painting a long long time ago, which is lifting paint off the paper to create a more fluid tonal transition. i need more practice.

it is indeed! im glad it comes across as she isn't the easiest gal to draw... but a delight non the less. and she seems to be happy with it, so i guess i am not too far off the mark

Haha, just today (I was sitting in a train drawing some random stuff) someone asked me to draw him. I simply prefer to draw people when they don't know that they're drawn so I always refuse those requests. Fortunately most people understand that...

Great illustration, by the way .

This is absolutely gorgeous - Ive been staring at it for days! Her face is beautiful, and I really love how you've done her hair. As someone with curly hair, its nice to see how to draw it effectively!! This is absolutely one of my favorite pieces on dA

yeah, I know the feeling! I've been through this as well. don't ever do your art for other people for free. they'll appreciate it more if they have to pay for it, and if they don't want to pay, they won't really appreciate what they got. gifts on occasion are something usual to make, but if someone just makes a request and offers nothing but gratittude, it's not really okay. or just make sure you'll have an opportunity to get something in return, a favor, cake, anything. don't worry about manners, it's your right not to want to draw for everyone and getting nothing in return. you need to make them acknowledge you value your time and work. your skills are just too precious! beautiful painting!

yeah it's definitely right. also working for a cheap price shouldn't take place. I once agreed to make artworks for a guy who would print them out and make a lots of benefits from this, but I would get money only once - for the original (which I couldn't even sign with my name). fortunately I realised how stupid deal it was and told him I want to quit the business before it has started maybe it was not really smart to quit before giving it a try, but I would feel bad if I sold my artworks for such a cheap price and not even get known for this. :/ some people just don't understand that making art is also a hard work and want to squeeze everything from you including your soul.
haha, sorry for such a long inference, it came out pretty long

Beautiful work!

I know what you mean about getting the "draw me" commissions and putting them off due to lack of interest or forgetting altogether. I think it probably happens to a lot of us.

One suggestion, the next time someone asks you to draw her or him, give them your commission rates. It's not rude, so you won't have worry about manners.
