Diesel: Oh, man. It's lucky I brought my video camera. I gotta show this to the other engines.

I far prefer Bullwinkle pulling a soldier out of the hat. The soldier opens fire and Rocky sweeps up the pulverized Bullwinkle.

"Anyone who thinks it isn't is lying"
Speak for yourself. I--for one--find this constant butchering of one's childhood by Hollywood (ex: [adult swim]) & 'fans' alike degrading. And tainting a childhood makes it impossible to go back, which is why most remakes/redoings *OR* sequels or prequels SUCK and why entertainment now lacks a certain wit & charm--also called heart & soul--and thus is horrible these days. Of course, the lack of wit & charm isn't solely what's made entertainment on the whole horrid to watch, as lack of originally, little to no variety, and constant needs to maintain political correctness also further ruins entertainment in a watchable form. Plus, people can watch stuff and get laughs without it needing swears (ex: Warner Brother cartoons & The Muppets [which are timeless and NOT just for children]).

I realize the Internet lacks the intonation of speech, so it may not have been clear that the snippet of text you quoted was meant to be taken as tongue-in-cheek. Most of the other work in my gallery should suggest that I don't do this type of thing often. As for the reasons why I did do it this time, well, I explained that in my very long comment.
Let me just also say this about the quote. That does not mean that I honestly believe that only off-color humor is funny. There's a time and a place for it. (Maybe not during Bullwinkle's magic act, but oh well.) But I also don't believe in ruling something out just because it is. But the thing that's universal about humor (other than the importance of timing/delivery) is that it's subjective. You didn't like this, and that's fine. What's more, you took the time to make a well-thought-out post about it. And I even agree with a lot of it, though maybe for different reasons.
Sure, I do tons of fanart here, but I don't do a lot of spoofy, pop-culture reference stuff simply because it has become so easy to fall back on. Kinda like what you said about [adult swim]. I think Robot Chicken and Family Guy are some of the worst shows ever made. (But if you got a problem with Venture Bros... *shakes fist at screen*) As for the whole childhood-tainting thing, regardless of what I drew here, I do have limits. Not long ago, I actually turned down what would have been a paid commission because (without going into details) I just couldn't do that to Popeye. But, see, that's all subjective too. Since I don't have the same history with Bullwinkle, I jumped right on this just for the chance to bask in some blissful witlessness.
Anyway, thought you deserved a response.

"That does not mean that I honestly believe that only off-color humor is funny. There's a time and a place for it."
Agreed. The Muppets when Jim was around would be--for me--a perfect outlet for irreverent humor, seeing as everything was pretty much fair game with Jim & company anyway, but the humor presented was done in ways so that all ages could enjoy it, whereas much "adult" humor these days is direct, balatant & quite frankly, immature in nature (ex: RC and FG).
"But the thing that's universal about humor (other than the importance of timing/delivery) is that it's subjective. You didn't like this, and that's fine. What's more, you took the time to make a well-thought-out post about it. And I even agree with a lot of it, though maybe for different reasons."
Understandable. I mean, even I can understand the maturation of a timeless character. In utilizing the *true* big cheese of Disney as an example, I prefer my Mickey to still be the nice guy but yet be a smart decision-making adult (ex: House of Mouse & the Kingdom Hearts games), as opposed to something out of Dora the Explorer (as per Mickey Mouse Clubhouse).
"I actually turned down what would have been a paid commission because (without going into details) I just couldn't do that to Popeye."
The Quaker Oats people could. They made Popeye say 'Can the spinach' for their oatmeal ad campaign! See for yourself! [link]
"Since I don't have the same history with Bullwinkle"
Though I didn't grow up with him either, I relate to those who faced tainted childhoods, so I came to the defense of 'moose & squirrel'.
