Description I have entered my gal Nicole Vetter aka "Diamond" in the very first OC battle held by This is the first time that I've ever been in an OC battle, as I've only recently have gotten comfortable enough with my artwork to pit myself up against other talented artists. So in a move to step my game up a bit and push towards my ultimate goal of being able to do sequentials and such, I jumped in the Battle if nothing else to try my hand at seeing if I could make Nikki the badass fighting machine that I claim her to be.

This is the first round match up...which originally was to be a three way battle between my Nicole verses 's Jet Dancer [link] and 's Genesis [link] to take place in an emptied Staples Center Arena, home of the the NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers. (I don't like Kobe Bryant!) as well as the home of the WNBA's LA Sparks. (It was also the same place where Micheal Jackson's funeral was held at.) However, due to bad timing and such with personal issues =Dualmask dropped out of the battle.

Basically, the story goes like this: instead of settling their battle with fighting, Nikki talks Genesis into a friendly game of One-on-one to 20. Knowing that Nikki is a World Champion Fighter, Genesis figured that she would have a better chance of beating Nicole in basketball game than a fistfight...however Genesis didn't realize that Nikki is as good at basketball as she is with her fighting skills...even worse for Genesis is that Nicole has her cybernetic enhancements as an advantage. Genesis didn't stand a chance against Nicole....Nicole simply dominated Genesis on the court with smothering defense, not letting her come near scoring a point and Genesis just didn't have any answer for stopping Nicole's juggernaut-like offense...it's kinda hard to stop someone that has a near 30 foot vertical leap and that can run at speeds up to about 60 mph!!!! The exclamation point is here where Nicole just throws it down hard with a monster dunk to confirm her victory! Although they were the only two in the arena, Nicole wished that Kobe was there so that she could take him to school as well. Genesis was very embarrassed after being dominated, but being the good sport that she is, Nikki brought two bottles of Gatorade and shared one with Genesis and they sat and talked for a little while...Nicole even gave her a few pointers and tips to help Genesis's game.

I wish that I could've done more with this...I wanted to originally do a 2-3 page comic of the whole game, but I caught a case of art slump for like 2 or 3 days last week. I think the pressure of thinking of something to do for my entry had me shook at first...but then I settled on doing a one page pin-up type of piece, as that's what I'm comfortable with doing. And sure I could have had them just brawl it out and trash the Staples Center, but I wanted to be creative by making the "battle" a game of B-Ball...especially being that Nicole is not just a fighter, but a SUPERIOR athlete. I wish that I had more time, but as I type this it's 6 am, I haven't gone to sleep yet, the entry is due today, and I have to work from Noon until....so I had to burn a little midnight oil to get this one in. I would have like to have added the raised seating in the arena and more details to the court and such, but I just settled on the gradient background. Perhaps I'll go back and touch it up.

BTW, the name of this piece is a play on words of "Shirts vs. Skins". For those of you that aren't athletically inclined, often when guys play b-ball to distinctly tell the teams apart, one team will keep their shirts on while the other team plays bare chested...I have yet to see a gal on the Skins team! Being that Nicole's body is covered in a symbiote, that's what spawned the title. What Nicole is saying is a reference from an episode of Chappelle's Show where Dave Chappelle is re-enacting a time where Charlie Murphy (brother of Eddie Murphy) is telling a story on how he and his buddies got their ass kicked in a game of basketball by Prince and the Revolution back in the 80's. At one point Charlie comments on Prince's shirt, saying it was gonna be shirts vs. blouses. At the end of the sketch, Dave as Prince dunked the basketball and said, "Game....blouses!" as he slid down the basketball pole in such a manner that Prince would! [link] K-djZK9-ks&feature=related

Here's to hoping that Nikki makes it past the first round! And now...I'm gonna try and enjoy these next 4 hours of sleep before I have to get up to go back to work!

You can see ~Akuzakuri-chan 's part of Nikki and Genesis's One on One B-Ball game here...warning, cuteness and hilarity will ensue! [link]

You showed out on this one! I'd pay money to see Nikki dunk on Kobe, lol! Did Nikki invite her to her house after the game and offer her pancakes and grapes?

But for real, fantastic work, Marky. I love to see how you're getting so much better all the time~!

I so wish that Nikki were real so that she could dunk on Kobe's punk ass! And for extra measure, throw Reggie Miller in there as well...I know he's retired, but I can't stand his punk ass either! (But damn that dude could shoot!)

Nikki easily beat Genesis by using such plays as "Computer Blue" and "Darling Picky", then she told Genesis that she needed to purify herself in the waters of Lake Minatonka! Then Nikki proceeded to hump the ball! And of course, she invited Genesis to her house for grapes and pancakes!

Thanks Kami! I'm glad that you see progression in my stuff!

Yeah, Nikki's a little on the buff side! And if she and Bumble should ever meet....that would be one interesting matchup!

I think women of all different shapes, sizes, colors, and boob sizes are beautiful (that includes muscular, fat, skinny, etc)...however I do tend to draw my gals a bit on the beefy side! I admire strong females, but in real life I would say that I'm more attracted to "thick", almost chubby females. I just don't like extremes: too muscular, too skinny, too fat, too tall, too big/small boobs, too light/dark, too unattractive/pretty (yes, there's such a thing as too pretty), etc. Yes, I know that's a weird range, but that's where I'm at!

Meh...it's not so deep if you really think about it. Many people, men and women, are stuck on only being attracted to a certain type of person and aren't open minded to stepping out of their little box. Me, I'm just able to find the beauty in many different types of women...not just the "standard of beauty" that the media says that is "beautiful". Every gal can't look like Beyonce or Megan Fox, and just b/c a gal is a size 14 and not a size 2 doesn't mean that she's unattractive b/c she has a few extra pounds.

Women are just beautiful to me!

LOL i like the added Kobe diss in there remember when Raja Bell clotheslined him in the playoffs? i think it was 06-07? maybe a year earlier. basically when they asked raja why he did it.."cuz Kobe's a bitch"! lol ok so he just called him arrogant but you could see he was thinkin' the other one nice job on this pic dude

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr-Marcus-81 In reply to seanpt [2009-07-20 13:09:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I CAN'T STAND KOBE BRYANT!!!!! Yes, I'll admit that the guy is a fuckin' phenominal player, but he's dirty, arrogant, a whiny bitch, and plenty of other things! I used to like him until he wanted to get rid of Shaq and Phil Jackson years ago...I was so happy when Shaq went to Miami and won a championship there while Kobe was scoring 50 points a game, but his team sucked!

And yes...I remember him and Raja battling hardcore in that series a few years ago...Raja's right, Kobe IS a bitch! But, I do have to give props on that NASTY dunk that Kobe did on Steve Nash!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

seanpt In reply to Mr-Marcus-81 [2009-07-20 17:16:29 +0000 UTC]

naw no props for that, stevie is not exactly the biggest guy on the court, and has he ever dunked or even swatted a shot away? Kobe basically went for the smallest guy on the court and dunked in his face. if he wants to impress me, dunk over stoudamire! lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr-Marcus-81 In reply to seanpt [2009-07-20 20:42:40 +0000 UTC]

True, it wasn't like Nash is the tallest dude on the court, but I went back and watched it on Youtube and that was a fairly difficult dunk, plus Nash ran in Kobe's way...and in all fairness he put himself at risk at being "Posterized".

However, upon further review, it should have been called a charge against Kobe b/c Nash's feet were planted, as he was trying to draw the offensive foul. But of course, b/c he's Kobe he gets the call for him in the way of a Blocking foul against Nash...they NEVER call any fouls against Kobe but if a defender even blows on him, he flops like a fish out of water and gets the call!

Mr-Marcus-81 In reply to seanpt [2009-07-20 21:04:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...Nash actually is a TEAM player also, unlike Kobe! There's also a reason why Kobe didn't finally win a championship with the Lakers as him team almost 10 years after he got rid of Shaq and Phil (the first time)...there's no "I" in team!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

seanpt In reply to Mr-Marcus-81 [2009-07-21 06:14:21 +0000 UTC]

kobe doesnt know that there's no "I" in team tho, he never played college ball, and college is super team oriented from what i can see (plus he missed the essential grammar courses of first year college! lol spelling 101? nope )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr-Marcus-81 In reply to seanpt [2009-07-22 19:54:30 +0000 UTC]

Nope...that's why I think that all potential NBA players should be required to play at least 2 years in college or in a developmental league to learn that basketball is a team sport and to develop their skills. Notice that all of the guys (with the exception of maybe Lebron, Kobe, and Kevin Garnett) that went straight from HS to the pros didn't really start to florish until about 3 seasons after being in the NBA. I understand the possibility of going to college and suffering some career threatening injury, but that's a very slim chance of that happening.

I'll bet that you feel about the Grizzlies the same way that I feel about the Hornets...I was a HUGE CHARLOTTE Hornets fan! And then they took my team from me and moved them to New Orleans! The NBA hasn't been the same for me since...I just can't get behind the sorry ass Bobcats!

I'm afraid that they will do the same thing to my beloved Carolina Panthers in football...for some reason the Carolina Pro teams aren't widely supported by North or South Carolinians...I lived in Greensboro NC and Columbia SC (both about an hour from Charlotte) and you'd be HARD PRESSED to find any Panthers, Bobcats, Hornets (when they were there), or Hurricanes (hockey's just not that popular down South...even with a Stanley Cup win under their belt ) fans! There have been so many times where I've gone to the bar on Sundays to watch the Panthers play, only to see people wearing all other sorts of jerseys and maybe see only one or two other people wearing Panther jerseys....IN CAROLINA!!!! That's probably why we don't have a MLB team...our market is so small and no one would care.

yah, i miss good ol' shareef abdur rahim playing for the grizz in his glory days! but it's ok, the memphis grizzlies suck and have yet to win a playoff game in their..what..around 15 year existance now? lol so i'm glad the team isnt another stinker up north like in toronto (i hope they don't lose bosh, but i get the feeling they might in 2010)
and that sucks that there's not alot of support for the sports in Carolina i dunno why that would be, there's a fairly large pop. there isnt there?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr-Marcus-81 In reply to seanpt [2009-07-23 01:11:34 +0000 UTC]

Dude, I remember when Bryant "Big Country" Reeves got drafted to the Grizzlies back when I was like a freshman/sophmore in high school! And he was never heard from again once he went there!

Toronto is iffy...some years they're good, some years...well not so much. They haven't been the same since Vince Carter's been gone, but that's been years now. Chris Bosh is pretty good, but I agree that he's not gonna stick around for too much longer unless they get him some help and Toronto is a perennial contender in their division.

As for Carolina Pro sports...yeah, there's a bunch of people in both South and North Cak, especially in Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Columbia, and Charleston. The thing is, being that all of Carolina's pro teams are fairly young teams...the Panthers are only 16 years old, the Hornets were an expansion team back in 89, the Bobcats came around in 2002/2003, and the Hurricanes came around somewhere in the early 2000's. So that means that many folks have favorite teams from other places; in football sense it's usually either the Steelers or the fuckin' Cowboys! (I HATE the Cowboys...mainly b/c of their punk ass fans! ) I've had Cowboy fans that live in the Carolinas say that they hate the Panthers b/c before they came along, they could see Cowboy games every week.

Some of those same Cowboy fans don't respect the Panthers b/c "they don't have any history"...well, I'd say that 3 Division Championships, 4 playoff appearances, one NFC championship, and one Super Bowl appearance (arguably one of the best Super Bowl games ever and site of the famous "wardrobe malfunction") is pretty damn good for such a short history of 14 years, especially considering that Dallas hasn't even won a playoff game in 12 years!

But I digress...many fans in SC/NC have favorite teams from other places, usually a high profile team. College sports, however, is a totally different story! It's all about the Gamecocks, Tigers, Tar Heels, Blue Devils, Wolfpack, Demon Decons, and the other smaller schools in between the two Carolinas! (Myself being a Tar Heel basketball fan and Gamecock football fan)

seanpt In reply to Mr-Marcus-81 [2009-07-23 02:15:17 +0000 UTC]

ah that makes sense. well as long as new generations continue to be reproduced in the Carolinas, there should be some fan base growth. kids growing up today will appreciate it more than older folks who have their hearts elsewhere in the sporting world. it would also help if the bobcats made a decent draft pick for once sure adam morisson was a good choice on paper...but that never worked out well cuz he hasnt really developed and i think he got traded to the lakers(?) sean may is gone..uh raymond felton is decent but not really a star. they really gotta draft or sign that big franchise player. it will happen someday, just who knows when? hopefully soon and also hopefully the hurricanes will have ppl watch games that arent just in the playoffs cuz staal & ward...STARS!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mr-Marcus-81 In reply to seanpt [2009-07-24 20:39:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...I guess that I'm fortunate that I didn't really get into sports until I was like 11-12 and being that my dad isn't a sports fan I was able to chose the teams that I liked...of course as a kid Jordan was on top of the world and I was a Bulls fan like everyone else; that is until I remember one night watching a game between the Charlotte Hornets and the Bulls...that night, for some reason I found myself going for the Hornets! They won, and it was a wrap from then on...I was a Hornets fan!

And I was a San Fran 49'ers and Green Bay Packers Fan (Brett Favre fan more than anything) until I started to support the hometown teams...I jumped to the Panthers and have put my chips all in on them!

As for the Bobcats and their draft pick woes...they've made some good picks; well at least on paper they were good ideas. At one point, they had Sean May, Raymond Felton, and another kid from the 2004 Championship UNC Tar Heels team! (Being a UNC fan, I SHOULD know his name, but I forgot it! ) All three of them were benched due to injuries for the last few seasons, except for Felton who has had decent playing time. And Adam Morrison was supposed to be a great pick, but he too was injured. I didn't even pay attention to who the Bobcats picked this year in the draft. Maybe one day they'll get their shit together basketball-wise in the "Queen City" of Charlotte.

And I'm not gonna hold my breathe on the 'Canes getting over in the Carolinas. Hockey is just not a big draw in the South period, let alone the Carolinas. (Neither is Soccer, for that matter!) I guess it's b/c our winters are mild in comparison to the Northern States and up top in Canada, therefore you don't have people recreationally playing hockey like one would play a pick up game of b-ball or getting a couple of the fellas together and playing touch football. Even here in ATL, there's a little buzz around the Thrashers, but not much.
