"Carpe Diem" is a Latin aphorism usually translated "seize the day",
taken from book 1 of the Roman poet Horace's work Odes (23 BC). Read more

I heard of this word for the first time from one of my all-time favorite movies Dead Poets Society.
In the movie, John Keating (Robin Williams), the new English teacher of a very strict school, teaches his stressful students about the meaning of Carpe Diem

in order to help them break out of their shells and pursue their dreams.
He makes his students realize the fact that time of life is short, and sooner or later everyone will get old and sick and end up lying as food of worms in the grave.
He persuades his students to seize the day, make their lives extraordinary while they still have chance.

Carpe Diem or seize the day is also my favorite motto.
I used it as concept in this work which is my entry for
TALKING ABOUT TIME contest hosted by

In this work, I portrayed time of life as getting on a train.
Life begins since the train starts leaving the platform.
We may face some good and bad experiences, happy and sad memories along the way.

However, the last station that everyone on the train is heading for is a dark and cold graveyard.
So, carpe diem. Seize the day while you are still on the train. Make your journey special and memorable.

The making of this work took plenty of time .....so much longer than I have expected.
It's not easy to portray intangible thing like time and its deep meaning into an artwork.
I can't just put some clocks because it's talking about time contest not talking about clock.
After all, the hardest part for me in this work is about composition.

I'd like to dedicate this work to one of the most impressive and inspiring movies of all time : Dead Poets society
and also dedicate to one of the greatest actors on earth : the late Mr.Robin Williams
Rest in peace.
