Description The big hitting primary armament of the Kororra class battleship, the Mark 21 triple turret. Notice it doesn't have the red glowing midspace "rifter"; in Marks over about 6 or so those are considered too big to mount on the turret itself, so you will see them mounted elsewhere on the ship.

This installation is 542.4 metres long, 268 metres wide; with the gun director mounted it's 90.6 metres tall, without it's 64.4 metres.

A Kororra class mounts seven of these turrets.

If the dimensions seem extreme... a large part of the thinking behind the Kororra was to subvert the typical "gigantic space warship" we see in fiction. Generally, the people who design these things have no real sense of scale about what they would imply. You will see, for instance, a ship that is miles long, but which has maybe 60 turret-type weapons, each of which are about the size of a present day 5 inch naval gun or so. If you do the numbers on that in terms of how the weapons scale to the ship, it's just patently absurd - it's like arming a World War II battleship with a pair of peashooters. To be even vaguely sensible, either there should be many, many, MANY more weapons, or the weapons themselves should be much, much, MUCH bigger.

Hence the Kororra class, which is almost 6 kilometres long, has 130 Mark 2 AMP turrets, 18 Mark 6 turrets, and then 7 of these gigantic Mark 21s. Oh, and the ship carries hundreds of torpedoes that are 135 metres long, comfortably bigger than a Saturn V rocket; seven thousand fighters, a Marine division and several hundred landing and attack craft to support them. And a crew of over 200,000 to run it all.

Neat, huh?
