I was so happy win I got to this part and saw that someone had finally drawn the mayor with her pink hair in the comic. Β I wanted to see her pink hair so bad for some odd reason.

I'd hope it does! It's a vector of the page in the comic she appears on. What that means is I use vectoring software to essentially "trace" the original artwork so that the intended picture can be made very large and not blurry.
Basically, the style looks like it's from the comic because it is from the comic.

When I saw her in the comic, I'm pretty sure that I did a double take. Maybe even a triple take. I mean... wow! ^_^

lol Yep, I noticed her cutie mark, continued reading for a sec, then it hit me. I smiled real big and was all like "Yeah, no, I got this."

I think the way it went for me was that I spotted Cheerilee first before I started reading any of the speech bubbles, and my thoughts then proceeded as follows:
"80's Cheerilee! Awesome. Who's her frie- wait a minute... Wavy pink mane, beige coat... could it be? *notices cutie mark* Oh my god, it is! That's Mayor Mare?! Holy crap, she's... hot! Like this, she could seriously give Button's Mom a run for her money!"
Then I finally noticed the speech bubbles, and had a good chuckle at them. But yeah, I don't think I'll look at Mayor Mare quite the same way ever again.

Speaking as the artist- and an 80's high school grad- goth was almost non-existent at the time. Punk reigned supreme, but this was more the "pop" version of what punk started... More Madonna than anything else.Β

Good question! Let's see... In the comic, she is walking with and talking to Cheerilee in her 80's fashion. If you assume that to mean that time of their life was "the 80's" of Equestria (which is heavily implied from the choices of music they like in the the comic), then I'll assume that the Mayor is also dressed in an 80's fashion.Β
Now, doing a quick image search for 80's Punk, and 80's Goth reveal.....not too much of a difference.....
Hmmmmm.......
If I had to guess, which I am at this point, I'd say she leans more toward goth fashion because: 1) Fishnet, 2) Dress, 3) Β He hair is not unruly
From what I saw, punk women in the 80's didn't really wear dresses and they ALWAYS have crazy unkempt hair. lol

lol Thanks! It's rather difficult to vector from the comics AND maintain a "natural" feel, what with all the various sized lines and natural jitters you get when drawing in a traditional medium.

Yeah, I've worked with vectors. In PS is a bit more easy, but in Illustrator is such a pain in the a*s!

If you ever want to make vectors in the future, I HIGHLY recommend using Inkscape ( inkscape.org/download ) It's free and extremely easy to use once you figure out the basics and, unlike PS, saves the files as actual vector files ( .svg which is just the opensource version of .ai files)
