Description Prehistory:
Tereba People - Finno-Ugric ethnic group living in the territory of the modern Ternopil region of Ukraine. Representatives of this people are representatives of the Hungarians, who in the 9th century moved through these lands from basin of the Volga River and Ural mountains. Most of the settlers stayed on these lands, but later moved further, to the territory of modern Hungary. However, part of the immigrants decided to stay here, thus separating themselves from the Hungarians, due to which they later formed their own culture, which was mainly influenced by immigrants from the Asian steppes who owned these lands, and later the Tereba people began to communicate with the native inhabitants of the lands located to the north of them - the Slavs. For centuries, the Tereba people lived on these lands, coexisting with Ukrainians, picking up many traditions and vocabulary of the Ukrainian language from them, which is why the Tereba language quite a lot of words from the Ukrainian language. This people, together with the Ukrainians, suffered from the oppression of the Ottomans, Poles and Muscovites, therefore the Terebans often united with the Ukrainians to protect themselves from the invaders, due to which between these two peoples formed special relationship.

Modernity:

Today, the Tereba people are a relatively small ethnic group living compactly in the territory of the Ternopil region. The government of Ukraine protects the Tereban culture by financing the cultural houses of the Tereban people, as well as opening Tereban language electives in schools of the Ternopil Region, where representatives of the people live.
