Yeah, but that's the only comparison they have really, and it's not a good comparison.

As Max put it once "To make any kind of sense of it, I need to go back three years. Back to the night the pain started." meaning you can sum up his character with his origin story. He's a driven, dedicated man who wanted nothing more than to avenge his family's death. By the time he did, he had nothing. He had no drive, no goal, no *meaning* in life anymore, till he met Mona Sax. Then she died, and he moved to Brazil. In terms of moves, he's a hard boiled cop. So he does the whole diving, tumbling and pistol akimbo shtick. :3

John Marston is also a good character, but he's not like Max Payne. He also has a goal, but he's willing to put it off for other things, and he has a family to come back to.

Don't forget that they live in COMPLETELY different time periods. xD

Now a fight I would LOVE to see: Max Payne vs Inspector Tequila Yuen from Hard Boiled. :3

They're both technically the same. They're both hard boiled cops, they plagued with guilt over a tragedy, Max having lost his wife and daughter, while Tequila's partners would get killed all the time, and they both do the whole John Woo shtick (Diving, tumbling, etc). ^^
