Zerig was a town in Central Thyonia that was always overshadowed by more important settlements such as Verdam to the north or the old fortress of Karrost to the east. The people of Zerig, however, were content to always be "overlooked", as this allowed them to enjoy a peaceful life.

In the 12th century, no one could say exactly when Zerig was founded. Some claim that the place had been founded long before the return of the Amnúrians, but there is no real evidence of this, although people had probably lived in the area for a long time.
