Not only is today Election Day, but today is the 50th Anniversary of cable premium channel: "Home Box Office" or HBO for short. This channel first aired on this day back in 1972 at 7:30 PM Eastern Time with an NHL hockey game between the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks at Madison Square Garden. The sports event was transmitted over channel 21, the channel that it was original assigned on the Teleservice System to it's inital base of 365 subscribers in Wikes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Immediately after the sports event, the service shown it's first movie presentation, the 1971 Universal drama: "Sometimes a Great Notion" starring Paul Newman and Henry Fonda.
