Corporate Conspiracies - Part 1

Chizuru waited for another minute, keeping an eye on the alley and her surroundings. When no one else showed up after a tense moment of waiting, the disguised girl jogged over to the door.
As expected, the door had been locked, something she confirmed with an experimental jiggle of the knob.
“Not a problem!" She thought. A trick she had picked up over the years of sticking her nose where it didn’t belong was to carry around a throwaway credit card on her person. It lacked any information on it, rendering it completely useless for transactions. However, that wasn’t the point; to her, it was a makeshift tool to jimmy a lock open. It being a card made it far less conspicuous than having a conventional lockpick on her would.
Sliding the card through the crack of the door, just above the doorknob, she began to slide it up and down and in and out, brows scrunched up in concentration.
“Come on…” she quietly muttered to herself, shaking the doorknob with her other hand as she worked. It was taking longer than anticipated, Chizuru realized, suddenly hit with a wave of nervous energy. Standing out in the open like this, clearly trying to break into a place like this was leaving herself exposed in a way that she didn’t like.
“Not to mention what might happen if I take too long to confirm whether or not Emily is here!”
Finally, after nearly two minutes of fiddling with the card, the knob twisted, opening up the door slightly.
“Got it!” she mentally cheered, relief swelling up in her. “Now let’s see what…”
Chizuru’s train of thought was completely derailed when a thick cloth was suddenly clamped over her mouth, a sickeningly sweet scent coating it. She could feel a hand clamped down over her mouth, keeping the rag in place. Another hand placed itself atop her head, over her hat, pressing her nostrils deeper into the cloth. Chizuru’s arms shot up into the air, the card she had been using falling to the ground beneath her feet.
“MMMMMMMMMPPHH?!”
Her muffled cry of shock involuntarily caused her to inhale more of the scent, causing Chizuru to feel light headed.
Chizuru began to struggle, kicking backwards to strike at his legs with the balls of her feet and arms blindly flailing about. Her flip-flops flew off of her feet one after another as she kicked, soles scrunching frantically with every desperate strike she made.
The lightheadedness grew worse as she exerted herself. It was only then that it finally clicked—why she was suddenly hit with a wave of lethargy.
“This is…chloroform?!”
The realization came too late, her kicking legs suddenly feeling increasingly sluggish, scrunching soles curling at a slower pace. The hand on her head moved to grab her left wrist, stopping her from reaching her hand up in an attempt to bat the cloth away.
“M-Mmmmpfff….”
As her eyes began to roll up in the back of her head, consciousness gradually leaving her, Chizuru could hear her assailant talking down to her.
“Not sure who you are…but that can be cleared up pretty easily.” A male voice, she managed to note—though not one that she recognized.
Chizuru’s eyes soon fluttered shut, her body slumping against the man behind her, toes minutely curling one more time before going still.
Setting her unconscious body down onto the ground, the man looked her over.
“Looks like we’ve got some kind of genius thinking he’s a detective, here.” His eyes lingered on Chizuru’s bare legs for a moment, one eyebrow quirking. “…for a boy, his legs look surprisingly good—ah, what am I saying.”
Shaking his head, he reached down to scoop Chizuru up, tossing her over a shoulder with practiced ease. Glancing at the ground, he grabbed the card she had dropped, along with her sandals for good measure, to make sure that no trace of her presence was left. With that, he headed inside, through the door that she had worked so hard to unlock.
And so, Chizuru had done what she had set out to do—get inside the mysterious address that Emily had risked so much to tell her about. Unfortunately for her, it was in the least appealing way it could have possibly happened…
