While Kanto Koffing is made via pollution and thrives off of the toxicity of surrounding city areas Alolan Koffing doesn't have that luxury. Alolan Koffing are said to thrive on the happiness of others and are often found near schoolhouses and in village areas. Because of this love of happiness and the loss of withheld toxicity Koffing has dropped its poison typing in exchange for a fairy typing. It's said that the once toxic smoke that plumes from koffing's body now is a pheramone that causes the nearby people and pokemon to be filled with joy.
