Description
Parvati was waiting upon a meditating Shiva. She wished to marry the lord. The gods were also waiting for the marriage to happen as it was prophesied that the offspring born to Shiva and Parvati will kill a demon Tarakasur, who was already giving a troubling time to the Gods. When they found that Shiva's penance is not wavering, Indra, the king of Gods, in his foolishness, ordered Kamadeva, the God of love, to break Shiva's penance and help make some chemistry between Shiva and Parvati. Kamadeva tried to lure Shiva into the world of attraction and love by shooting him with his flowery arrows. Shiva was furious at this. His third eye, which always remains closed (and for a good reason) opened and a jet a fire erupted and incinerated Kamadeva. He was reduced to ashes. One of the many reasons that Lord Shiva is also known as 'the destroyer'.
