Description Lanny Budds connections to power and societies elite during the onset of WWII brought information that he could no longer ignore. Hynkel knew that America could be his downfall if they joined the war effort so he had his spies and sympathizers infiltrate every level of power, influence, and government in the country. The US government never believed in a league, as they stated, "We have soldiers, not freaks." But Lanny knew it would take intelligent, special individuals to suss out these spies and Hynkels war rings here in the U.S., And after hearing a story from his father about once meeting a young british couple traveling though the states with a rather nervous, gaunt fellow in a black suit, Lanny had the idea to gather special individuals himself.

So with his connections and information gathering he assembled what he called The Midnight Society, as their work would be more covert given it would be done outside government purview.

Over the years leading up to WWII The Midnight Society abolished multiple spy rings, destroyed factories making weapons for an attack within the U.S., captured high level imposters, and destroyed a nazi submarine fleet off the California coast. The group usually worked in small groups but on occasion all did so together. After WWII the group disbanded successfully, only to reunite in the 50s to quell an invasion of body snatching aliens, who in their attack had snatched Lanny Budd himself!

(I purposefully didn't include indiana jones and doc savage because like Moore himself stated, some characters are too big and can be overpowering. Plus Doc Savage has an entire team he worked with and forcing them in too seemed futile. Beyond that, this is one of my fave groupings.)

Either way, it looks kind of like a pulp version of the justice society.

How come you didn't add any heroes like the spider(Pulp) or the Green Lama, because they are both pulp characters. Maybe you can make the Lama the league's spiritualist member, offering wisdom through riddles and facts. He can also advise them on paranormal activity.

i really just included my favorites that were plausible to the storyline i devised. Ive never been a huge fan of the lama or the spider. I even cut out the golden age daredevil whom I love because the team was getting too big.

Do you like the black terror? Oh yeah, sorry that I'm being picky. But I love public domain superheroes. Inculding Doc Strange, power nelson, pyroman, and the fighting yank

i love the black terror, but again, i had kind of hit the limit of heroes without it being just too big and me feeling too greedy. I did work out some bits where he had an adventure with the midnight society but ultimately he doesnt like lanny budd, i just keep forgetting to update that profile.

The only gripe I have with a pulp-era LExG is that people tend to include Dick Tracy in the group. I know he's a cool character and all, but I don't think it fits his character to have him working with a group like the League that operates outside the law; one thing Tracy always prided himself on was his devotion to his duty and the law, and he didn't seem to be the kind who'd approve of vigilantes like the Shadow. I could see him working towards similar goals, but getting in the League's way by investigating THEM, but never as an actual member.

I pondered the same thing until I worked out that given the cause they were fighting, and maybe a respect he has for budd himself, that he agreed to join, but his pensiveness towards the shadow for example would be great fodder for additional stories and character arcs.

Finally! Someone actually makes a league that makes sense! I know we started the concept with the Justice League itself (not counting Jason and the Argonauts of course.) But I always thought our older legends needed a bit of fresh air.
