I love how they look in the show at times, like they have feelings like we do, yet, they were harnessed themselves, and from what I've seen harnesses do so far, Dr. Glass may be right "I don't think the Skitters were always Skitters, they might have been something else." They have a mostly insectoid body with some reptilian characteristics, their heads look more humanoid than the rest of them.

Ofcourse , it`s HIGHLY Possible SOME Skitters retain SOME Humanity , caring for The Harnessed Children and grooming them to become Skitters while Others ARE More Vicious and Animalistic , destroying Humans and Harnessed Children ALIKE with their Mechs ! I`m betting Tom , if Harnessed , would become The Former while Pope would become The Latter ! And yes , they HAVE STARTED Harnessing Adults ! Granted , Karen`s A Young Adult BUT STILL An Adult !

But ultimately , The Skitters ARE Ruthless Animals , NOT The Benevolent Parental Figures they INITIALLY appear ! In A LATER Episode , A Skitter slaughters Harnessed Children AND Humans ALIKE ! They`re Animals driven by Instinct and their PRIMARY Instinct is " Kill " !
