I listened to the Resistance album yesterday, home alone, nice and loud... for an hour or so there I didn't actually exist on planet Earth, it zoomed me away to some far-off planet a lot like ours only more beautiful! What amazing music.
At least we'll still have that to keep us going at the anniversary

How did your Resistance listen go?

I'll be self-destructively watching and listening to Muse all day, I think I'll feel happy and depressed at the same time.

It's so nice just to sit and do nothing but listen to beautiful music for an hour! It is indeed relaxing and mind-opening.
And my best friend, who went to the concert with me, won't be in this country to share the anniversary with me! She'll be in France!

it sucks not having anyone :/

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-08-18 07:47:54 +0000 UTC]

I think both, but she takes hotness and musical ability into account when discovering new bands!
She likes Muse mainly for their music, though. They're not quiet emo enough for her to find them really hot

It's so wonderful to escape, to live in the universe that they've created with their music.
I think listening to the CDs in the order that they produced them is a bit like reading a saga, all about the same thing at different periods in time.
I know, I feel really crap not having Absolution! I have almost all the songs on my mp3 but it's just not the same as havign the CD, sigh!
But yes, OoS is a great substitute

so true! it's good that my mum likes 'em too cos otherwise she'd be really annoyed most of the time wats ur favorite track?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-09-06 08:17:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeeeee I have Absolution!! -eats lip-
I think one of the best bits is the intro track! mmmmmmm bang bang bang, bang bang!
Hahaha Mum probably gets sick of how much Muse I play, but she does like them and thinks they're amazingly talented. I secretly think she might not like the heavier ones but I've never asked because there's no way I'm skipping past them! xD
But my stepdad, although very softly spoken generally, doesn't like rock generally. He likes old music, funny music, and lighthearted music. Those don't generally apply to Muse! And my Dad can appreciate how I love them so much and how skilled they are but likes more relaxed music generally.
My favourite track from Absolution or Muse in general?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mrstennant10 In reply to RadishStick [2011-09-07 03:40:07 +0000 UTC]

AHH yessss!! soo how does it feel to finally own all the albums?
hahaha thats good at least they put up with it
the heavy tracks are some of their best!
umm how about ur favorite ones from each album and then all time fave...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-09-08 11:10:49 +0000 UTC]

With all the albums, it feels complete. I feel satisfied and it's just so RIGHT to have then all! I can't wait tto have a day at home alone so I can have a marathon! >
I know, the heavy tracks are great! Mind you, Mum still loves Hysteria which is pretty heavy, but I think it's the older-dtyle heavy ones she's not so keen on, like thoughts of a dying atheist, showbiz/fillip/uno/overdue etc, the small print, possibly hy[er music.
But she likes Hysteria and Stockholm Syndrome so it's all good xD and she hasn't actually ever said she doesn't like any of them.
ok. Favourite ones from Showbizzzzz... Sunburn and Muscle Museum because they stick in my head for ages, from OoS probablyyyyy Bliss, Citizen Erased and New Born and Plug in Baby of course. From Absolution... HMMM! xD Time is Running Out and Butterflies and Hurricanes. Shortly followed by all the others xD From BHaR Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia, of course! And from Resistance, Uprising and MK Ultra.
It was hard to narrow it down that far! if I was threatened with death or totrture I'd have to say my all time favourite is Knights of Cydonia, in part because it was so amazing live, and the last song they played.
What about you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mrstennant10 In reply to RadishStick [2011-09-10 04:08:57 +0000 UTC]

ohhh goodd this will be difficult...i'll try i'll choose three from each album
my favorites from Showbiz would be Sunburn, Uno, and Cave. OoS would be Bliss, Plug in Baby, and Feeling Good. Absolution is Hysteria, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist, and Endlessly. BHaR its Take a Bow, Supermassive Black Hole, and i can't choose between Map of the Problematique and Knights of Cydonia. From Resistance its Undisclosed Desires, Unnatural Selection, and MK Ultra. (I also adore the Exogenesis symphony he wrote!)
All time favorite would have to be Map of the Problematique or Undisclosed Desires.
Have you heard any of the B-sides? if not check out "Dead Star" and "In Your World". They're brilliant! Dead Star is a bit heavy though. just a warning

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-09-14 11:22:59 +0000 UTC]

See!! It's so difficult! Interesting that one of your all time favourites in Undisclosed Desires! I love it, like all their stuff, but it's not mine. Map of the Problematique and Starlight were used in The Tourist, starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. Good movie, too! Yep I'm gradually discovering all the B-sides, I know of quite a few at the moment including Dead Star, but I don't think I've heard In Your World. I'll hear it soon I love the B-sides! I think Glorious should've been on an album.

I saw the Tourist twice while it was still in cinemas. it was brilliant! i loved it. the B-sides are sooo good! they're like true Muse fan territory. i believe if u get the album on itunes Glorious comes with it. i cant be certain though.

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-09-15 07:52:35 +0000 UTC]

Was the version of Starlight that they used in the credits faster than normal? Because last time I watched it I swear it was too fast! o.O
Yeah, Johnny Depp makes that movie great. As always!
I don't use iTunes for anything, and I've never downloaded a whole album. If I like the artist that much I show them the respect of buying the physical album I love the way Muse songs grow on you the more you listen to them! Like, you start off thinking they're good and then you listen to them more and it's like WOW HOW DID I LOVE WITHOUT THIS SONG! xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mrstennant10 In reply to RadishStick [2011-09-16 04:45:26 +0000 UTC]

i thought so too...hmmm. I know what you mean. i always buy the physical albums too but since i run a lot for football i get them off itunes as well. Oh My God. I know!!! thats how i felt about Take a Bow. At first i was like "yeah this is all right" and now i dont go a single day without listening to it!
Im so excited. i can play the guitar part to supermassive black hole. i mastered it a couple of hours ago and have been annoying my brother by playing the riff over and over for the past half hour

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-09-16 08:04:49 +0000 UTC]

I just buy the physical albums and then convert them to an mp3 format, easy although I don't have an iPod, I don't know what it's like with them and all the horrible iTunes software. Yeah me with Glorious, at first it was like meh, this isn't exactly supermassive black hole is it? it lasted about 3 months on my mp3 before I deleted it, then I downloaded it again a few months ago and - 'oooh, good intro! ahhh it's all so buildy-uppy!' then 'FAAAAARK THIS THING IS AMAZING IT'S SO IMMERSIVE AND BEAUTIFUL AND PROFOUND MMMMMMMM'
I think that's why a lot of people don't love them the first time they hear them, because it takes time to apperciate it all
Oooooh! Do you actually learn guitar, or are you totally self-taught? I might try and learn it now! It's really hard not to awnt to learn guitar when you love Muse, cos then you can play air guitar so much better when you listen to it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mrstennant10 In reply to RadishStick [2011-09-18 03:12:57 +0000 UTC]

I did that with resistance and absolution but then i had gift cards to itunes so i just bought their version of BHaR. i do own all the physical copies though. Glorious is absolutely amazing! one of my favorites. it is indeed a shame that is wasnt on the cd version though. I took guitar lessons for a while, but there's only so much that people can teach you. you really only need to learn chords because most music is either chords or arpeggiating chords (playing them 1 string at a time) once you've got that down its all up to how much you practice. i was originally inspired by Muse to learn. its really fun once you get the hang of it u should try it out

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-09-18 09:14:22 +0000 UTC]

Good plan I've never bought music off iTunes though, there's not much need since I don't have an iPod! I love the confliction in Glorious, faith turns him on but he knows it's blocking out the truth. It's a fascinating internal argument!
After you saying you learnt the supermassive black hole guitar part I had to go and learn it, then I did the singing part which was of course much harder since it was never intended to be played on guitar! I don't know the first thing about guitar chords, I can tell when I've found one but having never had lessons it's a tad tricky. I prefer playing a tune to strumming so far though but yeah the smbh bit is surprisingly easy! I went and worked out Starlight afterwards too xD
I think one day I'll have to properly learn so I can do air guitar better! I do love breaking out into air guitar solos!

i know its such an amazing song im impressed you learned it that fast and im thinking of stopping my lessons coz i've got all the basics down. i really want to learn Stockholm Syndrome. its so hard though. i can only do it at about half the pace that he goes at :/ but i'll get it eventually. hahahaha i can relate. its a bit embarrassing when people walk in on you though lol

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-09-27 09:46:34 +0000 UTC]

It sure is! I particularly love Matt's voice in it. I know how to play piano so that probably helps me to pick up guitar fairly quickly Yeah Stockholm Syndrome would be really hard, but so worth it when eventually you can play it really fast! That would feel so awesome. Yeah I'm always really alert when I play piano or guitar, whenever I hear a car pull in or a door opening I'm like niwwww -puts instrument away- -looks innocent- I'm so self conscious!

yea its the same for me. i find it insanely difficult to practice with people around in the house. i hate it when they comment even if its something good, you know...i dont know maybe musicians anti-sociality? i dont know

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-09-28 07:28:47 +0000 UTC]

I know! Even a compliment makes it awkward to keep playing! I can ignore the presence of my stepdad because he's pretty good like that but anyone else just makes me want to stop playing! Yeah, maybe we're all just really self conscious! Did you know Matt Bellamy doesn't let anyone in the studio with him when he's recording his vocal parts? How weird is that! He sings in front of hundreds of thousands but can't do it one-on-one!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mrstennant10 In reply to RadishStick [2011-10-01 19:03:25 +0000 UTC]

hahahaha it just proves he's as human as the rest of us i guess the adrenaline of being on stage makes it easier to sing to a crowd. on-to-one performances are a lot more personal so they're more intimidating.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RadishStick In reply to mrstennant10 [2011-10-03 10:25:14 +0000 UTC]

Well no, I disagree. Matt isn't human, he's an alien! That's why Bing will be so interesting, because he'll be the first alien-human hybrid! Yeah that's true, sometimes it's easier to say something to a lot of people than to just a couple. But they've been his friends since school!
