Yes this picture captivates me. It makes me feel as if I'm standing in the middle of it and I'm freezing cold and wet and my legs are numb and my feet hurt and my breath hurts to take in because it's icy and my face and hands are both dripping and frigid, and I am absolutely utterly blissful in the cold and the rush and the power.

I like it, and as everyone has said great contrast and you've captured the flow of the water through the fram really well, I would have liked it if there was an obvious focal point in the picture, or something interesting like a piece of wood or something. But then that is just the way I frame things!

There, you voiced the nagging feeling that I have; that there is no focal point in this picture. Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it.

It's a really great picture but there is nothing really that draws the eye and makes you pause to look at the picture. A friend of mine suggested that before one takes a picture you should walk all around the object (if you can) looking at different angles and framings and only then pick up your camera. I tend to get stuck with one view and ignore other possibilities.

Yep, agreed. Unfortunately walking around this object would've meant I would've been swept away!
But I get your meaning and I do agree. Thanks for commenting.

I like the contrast, but mostly I like the way that the tones, and the water, flow through the frame...

the power of the water is clear from the mist and the dramatic b&w tones.

I like it! I think there's a great contrast between the black rocks and the white water and that it shows the movement of the water really well.

Thumbs up from me.

Thanks Johann. But then you are a contrast whore by your own admission. Glad it works.

In answer to your question, I find this very captivating! The movement of the water is beautiful - it seems to form in layers with the rocks and the thin strands of wash at the bottom of the image are amazing. It's almost like a little white firework has gone off there.

Great shot.

Hey thanks for that. I hear you about the fireworks, but I keep thinking - well what about the rest of the image - what is that contributing? Don't mind me - just a whole bunch of self doubt on this one?

I think this has the makings of a good picture, do you have the colour version or was this taken in B&W ? I would like to see the differences.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrStickman In reply to JRose-Photography [2006-09-05 15:50:10 +0000 UTC]

This was taken in colour but because the sun had not risen it's very desaturated, hence the choice to go full B&W. Truthfully not much difference, just more contrast in the B&W.
Thank you very much for the feedback. I may post color in scraps. WIll advise.
