Original work inspired by the XVth fencing treatises, here about sword and buckler.
Fighting with a depiction of death is a motif found in several depictions of the medieval life.
Chosing a rabbit is a wink to the marginaliae of some treatises (mainly, XIIIth and XIVth) often mocking scenes by inverting an element, such as a hunter chased by a rabbit. That, and dick-trees.
