Description

When reimagining Downfall, I landed on smurf houses, which would convert nicely into marshy bullywug dwellings. I decided to keep the mushroom look and not change them into thatched roofs, because shrooms fit the setting perfectly.

It started with the four small houses, which were old McDonald’s toys. Then I bought bigger Schleich playset pieces and converted them into the balloon factory and the palace. I had already crafted a rough gazebo for King Gullop XIX and adjusted a wooden Mega Bloks guard tower, completing the major buildings for the bullywug village. An older Playmobil airship conversion would have to serve as Trinket, Bauble, and Charm's balloon shop.

This left me with the frogfolk building for the Soggy Court, but Downfall wouldn’t be complete without Bavlorna’s cottage. The only problem was that her cabin as presented in the adventure would not translate well into a tabletop building. The main floor is just too big: crafting it as written would have resulted in a clunky building, much too wide and lacking any decent height. A process of redesigns lead me to the five storey building you can see in the pictures. I removed some minor rooms, divided the original large second floor over two levels and moved Bavlorna’s hoard to the attic to fill up the pointy roof I envisioned for her house.

To complete my Downfall set-up, I still needed lots of furniture pieces to fill the houses (including quite a few unique pieces that I didn’t have in my collection yet, like the taxidermy workshop and the distillery), and finally, the islands to differentiate between the dry and wet areas of the lakeside town.

Despite the fact that it is hard to transfer the magic of the set-up in real life to picture, I have done my best to capture some of it. I hope you like it.
