I don´t even know how the glider wieslis developed, I think it did not happen like a mammal bred with a bird or something.
I more imagined that this species lives in an after-humanity scenere where humans already died out due to war, diseases and overpopulations and animals (those which survived) partly got the chance to develop new features but also some animals remained the same mostly. Since evolution doesn´t happen from one day to the other there are of course many 100 years inbetween this.
