This piece is especially striking. It almost looks like a drawing. A beautiful photograph. I love the glimmer in the glasses and the whole reflection apparent in them. Great detail. This photo exhudes joy and excitement.

Great work.

First:
I gotta say it is a nice job done with colours, It is hard to work with them but at the same time it is quite easy because you can actually almost make any color with good colours.
Then
I would point out the shadows and the colors. The shadows is a huge element of a drawing, they can make a huge difference between boring, normal and awesome. Play with the colors of shadows. you see for example the nose has a really dark shadow, however her neck and the place where the goggles and her hair met should be more darker.
Also I might point out keep in mind perspective of objects. I am really amazed about the goggles. The reflection is really well done (I don't think even me could figure out how to do it). But its shape doesn't match the face. They look a little off shape. The same goes for the lips. Maybe she is biting her lip, but for me it looks a little weird
Again just make more contrast between colors and you will be fine. You are in the correct path, you just need to experiment with it.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have noticed that I probably should have gone darker on her face and stuff:/ oh well there's always a next time right? and the angle of her face was just really weird to begin with and I think I got it off when I first sketched it out but then didn't catch it until it was too late to fix.. Oh we'll thanks again for the helpful suggestions

wow, i quite like this!! the goggles look awesome but i think the strap would look better solid black as opposed to striped...the stripe just bothers me
i akso think it would look better with a bit more contrast as of now it doesnt really pop!(could just be the pic though)
the BG is a bit dull too and what is the dark spot in the upper right suppose to be? (its kinda distracting)
i know its not much of a critique but theres not much wrong with this in my opinion(plus i dont know much about drawing lol)!!
all in all i think this is definitely one of your better pieces!!

I chose this one because it is your best one, in my opinion, in your gallery and probably because it looks like Emma Watson, who I like very much.

Pros:
You have a good foundation and understanding of colouring, colour pencils are probably one of the easiest media to use however creating an effective artwork that complements the media is something not easy to do. You were able to represent the quality of the colour pencils effectively, but you could use a little more time working on this piece. Probably the best thing about this piece is the goggles. Notice the contrast of them makes it look like the centre piece of the image. I don't know if you did that on purpose, but I would say that the goggles take all the attention away from her face.

Cons:
Where I feel that this piece falls short is the contrast. Her face is very bright and it disappears in the white background (Especially since it's behind those goggles). I would suggest either darkening her face a little and bumping up the contrast of your darkest darks and her face should stand out more in the white background, and her hair could use a little work too (Not too much though). Or you can darken the background with a gradient blue that is dark from the side of her face and grows lighter as you move away. You could do this on Photoshop if you have the program to experiment on the colours. This way you don't end up destroying this really beautiful piece.

My Take Away:
I believe that this piece is something that you should be proud of, but use it as a trampoline to getting better than this one. I know from experience it is hard to not get attached to a drawing, however you should look at this piece as the one that sets the standard of how good you should become in the future and if you really want to become a better artist always remember that it's never gets to be good enough. The moment you think you're good enough, you will stop improving (unless that is what you want). Practice more and you'll be twice better than this one by the end of the year.

That's probably my say, I'm taking an Illustration course at Sheridan and we have to get better at critiquing. I hope it works well for you.

Thanks so much! Everything you said about improvement is so true, and your drawing advice is very helpful I will keep them in mind for my next artwork

Sometimes it's hard to know how to improve, everyone has an idea but typically those who procrastinate more than they work tend to need telling.
(Not that I'm saying you're a chronic procrastinator.)

I'm just speaking from my own experience. I used to have chronic procrastination (ADHD "cough" still have it... "cough") but I was able to learn ways to fight it and being told how to become better by someone is much more effective to me then me relying on myself to do it. That was confusing to type...

Not to say it's an excuse, but artists tend to be ADHD, it's what can make a person become artistic in the first place.

So yeah, if I could advice someone to become a better artist I feel that I'm paying back all the people who helped me.

Plus, you can learn a lot by advising someone, because sometimes you'll find yourself advising them about something you never thought of before that you can use yourself in the future. So it's win-win I say. If you want me to advice you sometime, feel free. You may catch me with something I didn't know about before and we both end up learning something together. -___^

Well I stand by my word and helping other people is probably one of the best ways to find out problems you never noticed before.

So if you ask me for advice I'll always try my best to give the most reliable answer I can give. -___^

I really admire people who have the patience to work with coloured pencils! And you really put effort on this one. I totally love the way how you handled with the reflection on the mask. I think you used a photograph for reference?

I think you could've worked a little bit more with other parts of the picture to get this drawing even further, especially the hair (I know, I'm not that good colouring hair either, it's hard!) since the colours in the mask are so brilliant. Otherwise I think you did a great job with this.

Thanks for the help! I did use a reference, a few actually, one for the reflection and one for the face hair etc. I just got frustrated doing the hair because it was not looking like the photo at all and I was impatient so I just hurried it...maybe I'll fix it eventually haha. Thanks again!

Haha I know the feeling, I tend to rush some things up when I get frustrated with a drawing... but I guess it's important to stay patient.
