Description

I continue the series of portraits following the historical film "Union of Salvation" (2019).

The film tells briefly about the events of December, 1825, Russia, when the decembrists revolted and demanded better life for Russia, adoption a constitution, abolition of serfdom and equality of people of all classes before the law. However the protest was put down and the five rebel leaders were hanged. The others were exiled to Siberia and other remote regions.

This time I drew Ippolit Ivanovich Muravyov-Apostol, brother of Sergey Muravyov-Apostol (another important personality in the Decembrist Revolt). He was a Warrant Officer of the Quartermaster and a member of the Nothern Society in St. Petersburg. He took part in The Chernigov Regiment revolt - the second and the last major conflict of the Decembrist revolt (from December 29th to January 3d). The revolt was supressed by the troops of the Russian Empire. Unwilling to surrender, Ippolit shot himself.

Russian history knows little about him, neither was there any portrait left depicting one of the youngest rebels (19 y.o). That's why his image wasn't shown in most historical films.

In the "Union of Salvation" his role was played by Andrey Martynov.
