Imagine: walking in on Phil giving Dan advice on how to ask you out.

You’d been living with Dan and Phil for a little while now. Almost a month. Though you hadn’t really settled in yet. Most of the time you needed their help looking for something. You’d been fired from your job and when Phil found out he insisted you move in with them to help you out. And everyday you were grateful and never wanted to ask them for anything again. But at the moment you really needed help finding some bank statements.

“Phiil!” you heard Dan whine as you got closer to the living room. His child- like voice made you smile.

“What?” Phil responded, “You asked for my advice and I gave it to you. Would you prefer I talked you out of it?”

“Yes!” Dan shouted

You heard Phil groan. “Look Dan, you like her a lot, so you should just tell her that. And even if she doesn’t feel the same way, which I’m pretty sure she does, you’ll feel better getting it out.”

You stopped to lean against the wall, listening closely to their conversation. So Dan had a crush? Though you were happy he had found someone, you were a little sad. You’d fancied him yourself for quite some time. When Phil asked you to move in, you were glad you could fall asleep to the sound of Dan’s piano playing in the next room over. And that everyday you could wake up to him sitting on the couch watching television. It’d become sort of a tradition. The two of you would spend about an hour watching whatever was on and eating out of the cereal box. So yes, you were happy for him. But there was still that selfish part of you who wanted him for yourself.

“Can you tell her for me, Phil?” Dan begged

“No Dan, you have to do it yourself.”

You decided you’d snooped enough and turned around to go back to your room. Though you ended up slamming into a couple boxes in the hallway. The top one fell to the floor with quite a loud crash. Damnit, you thought, god fucking damnit. Well, they definitely knew you were there. Cringing slightly, you walked into the living room as casual as possible to find both of them staring at you.

“You okay, (Name)?” Dan asked as Phil tried to stifle a giggle

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just bumped into one of the boxes.” You managed to choke out. It was awkward for about a good five seconds until Phil stood up.

“I’ll be in my room if either of you need me.” A small smile was apparent on his face as he walked by you and you resisted the urge to raise an eyebrow at him. Why didn’t they trust you? The three of you were good friends and had been for awhile. So why were they keeping it a secret?

“So, what are you doing?” you asked, putting your hands in your pockets as you walked over to Dan

“Nothing really, I was just on tumblr.” Before standing up, Dan shut his laptop. “What about you?”

“Putting off cleaning my room.” You smiled a little. Never had you had an awkward moment with Dan. Why now? “So, uh… what were you and Phil talking about?”
“It’s nothing.” Dan said, “Don’t worry about it.” he avoided your gaze

“It doesn’t seem like nothing.” You responded bluntly

“I was just asking him about this girl. Didn’t you want to pick up the Death Note box set?” Dan quickly grabbed his jacket and started walking to the door

“Daniel!” you protested, grabbing his arm. “You fancying someone isn’t nothing! I can wait for Death Note. If you want advice then take some from a girl.”

Dan blushed, “Well what do you want me to say?”

“Oh I don’t know…” you sighed, “Uh… tell me what you want to tell her, or how she makes you feel. Tell me anything.”

“She’s the most amazing girl in the world.” He said, his eyes looking at you so intensely, “Whenever I see her I can barely breathe. If she’s happy then I’m happy. And if she’s sad, I’ll do anything to make her happy again. Everything I do is for her. But she doesn’t even know.” You frowned

“Oh Dan!” you said, wrapping your arms around his neck, “I’m so sorry.” He gently held your small waist in his hands

“It’s ok, (Name).” he said, his voice muffled by your hair

“I’ll help you get her, I promise. What’s her name?”

Dan put a hand on the back of your neck and pressed his lips onto yours. Only then did it connect. All the times he stuttered in front of you, all the times he surprised you, and all the times he did little things for you. You were the one he was talking about. You were the one who he needed advice on how to get. Dan fancied you.

“(Name).”

“Yes?”

“That’s her name.”

“Oh I don’t know…” you sighed, “Uh… tell me what you want to tell her, or how she makes you feel. Tell me anything.”

“I’ll help you get her, I promise. What’s her name?”

Dan put a hand on the back of your neck and pressed his lips onto yours. Only then did it connect. All the times he stuttered in front of you, all the times he surprised you, and all the times he did little things for you. You were the one he was talking about. You were the one who he needed advice on how to get. Dan fancied you.

“(Name).”

“Yes?”

“That’s her name.”
