Description My entry to the Beauty in Everyday Objects - Macro Contest

normal lighter "in action" at magnification ratio of 1:1
Camera: Nikon D5000
Lens: AF-S Micro Nikkor 85mm 1:3.5 G ED DX

Clamped the lighter at a vice to fix it which was necessary to place the camera (on a tripod of course) at the right distance. DOF was very small which made it difficult to get the right point sharp. Two extra common desk lamps for lighting, no sunlight. Little black background did the rest...

... ehh - and about 1000 photos to get about 3 good ones.

Its rather difficult to get the timing and not moving the camera a bit by using the lighter with the other hand at the same time...

no adjustments except of cropping the photo a little bit.

At first I thought this was a Taraxacum but now that I see it in full view I lost my words! Absolutely amazing shot of this miniature firework

A little late to try it, but how about using the self-timer on the camera so you don't have to worry about hand-shake? That and once you get used to it, you can wait for the exact countdown to use the lighter, instead of trying to do two things at once.

Still, this is an amazing shot. Excellent entry.

good idea, but for me it didn't work better By doing it manual I had a better kind of feeling about the very moment the photo was taken. To get the flash and not a flame or even nothing I had to start the lighter very very...very few time earlier
Perhaps I'd have got used to it if i'd have tried it some hours with the self-timer...
Another problem is that these lighters are very unsteady. The time you get a flash - or not - are quite different. So either I'm not skilled enough or you need some luck - I think it's both. Next time I'll give it a try

Thx a lot for advice
