Description

I originally wanted this done around the time of Lunar New Year, but then I got lazy and somewhat intimidated by the some of the more complex designs... but I finally managed to get it done!

The AirHeads have returned! I really had this image in my mind of them wearing hanbok, which I've been obsessed with drawing as of lately. So here's TEN different hanbok styles, seven for girls, and 3 for boys that I drew. As I worked on this, I spent some time even looking at some examples of Korean designs and elements to add in, such as the feather-trimmed dance fans and the winter caps the last three characters are wearing. The border around the characters is based on a traditional style of painting known as dancheong, which decorates many Korean palaces and temples.

So, front left to right, we have...

- Tammy Lee in a basic pink hanbok (jeogori/chima) with striped sleeves and floral motifs.

- Azalea in a mauve/red royal hanbok (dangui/chima) with lots of gold decoration.

- Maria in a *very* basic hanbok (jeogori/chima) in black/red.

- Zane in a hanbok (jeogori/po/baji) with a hat called "gat" with beads (beads signify nobility).

- Aaron in a hanbok (jeogori/jokki/baji) in orange/yellow with a cloud print.

- Topham in a pastel-hued hanbok (jeogori/chima) with striped sleeves and floral motifs.

- Susie with a golden yellow/forest green hanbok (jeogori/chima) with dance fans.

- Katarina in a blue hanbok (jeogori/chima/fur vest) with a winter cap called "jobawi".

- Scott (formerly called "Sven") in a blue hanbok (jeogori/magoja/baji) with a cap called a "nambawi" (can be worn by both men and women.

- Selene (formerly called "Yvonne") in a royal hanbok (dangui/chima) with some gold decoration, a winter muff, and a cap called an "ayam".

So, not much more to say, other that I just love the designs I made each of them! My favorite has to be Topham's for its bright pastel greens and yellows and pink florals for contrast. The ones with the fanciest designs would have to be Selene, Zane, and Azalea, with the latter being the gaudiest. And I'm finally pleased to introduce Julien, who is the lemur sitting on top of Aaron's head (yes, he's named for King Julien from Madagascar).

As always, feedback is welcome, and stay tuned, 'cause you're watching Stephanie's Channel!

Hanbok is the traditional clothing of Korea. For women, it's usually a short jacket with a long floor-length skirt, and mean will wear that a similar jacket top but with poufy pants and a vest. If you research Joseon Dynasty hanbok, you'll see a greater variety in the garments, especially when it comes to royalty and military.
