I ALMOST cast Dameon's father as Trident because of the whole overly controlling thing but COME ON. THE AESTHETIC. YOU REALLY EXPECT ME TO RESIST TALIA AS QUEEN OF THE MERMAIDS, COMPLETE WITH SPARKLY DREAM POWERS? Like really. Also like, they both are so driven by their fears. Trident is afraid of the humans (for good reason), and Talia is afraid of the prophecy that has turned her world upside down twice already by the time she is raising Dameon. Trident reacts by trying to keep his daughter away from everything remotely connected to his fears, while Talia drags her son into the fight with her. AND YET! Both approaches have the same result of isolating their children and leading them down the exact opposite path. !!!! There are irresistible parallels here. How could I ignore that?? I could not.
