What comes to mind when you hear Cosmic Corsair?
I actually had to look up what that word was. It's basically a kind of pirate that the french describe to be "privateers operating on behalf of the French crown". After that, I thought of fancy armor and a since of nobility that still works outside of the law. Just because you're a pirate, doesn't mean you have to dress a certain way. I didn't want any stereotypes. It's an original character after all which is another reason why I went with armor and not clothing.

What do you focus on first when creating an original character?
In creating and designing characters that will be wearing armor, I think of body shape, form, and functionality of the two. The armor in this piece was inspired by the sea as well as space travel. I was thinking on curves from the waves with hints of traditional apparel and technology embodied in between the two. But since it's space travel I couldn't think of any clothing that would have been appropriate. So I went with a sealed helmet, which is why the back of the helmet has a cloth sash clipped on it to help give it that pirate-hat feel including the half cape and accents of rippled cloth.

What do you feel is your greatest strength when designing characters?
I believe originality and creativity in details is my greatest strength. I love designing armor, and having a theme for it is more interesting in the whole. Because not a lot of people can draw or design armor the way I do, and I'm proud of being a concept artist that can accomplish in making armor.
