Description Today I went to see a famous monument to the devastating 1995 earthquake in Kobe. To symbolize the unbreakable spirit of Kobe, $1.4 million was spent building a full-scale statue of Tetsujin 28, a giant anime robot. It is 18 meters tall and weighs about 50 tons. It is located in Wakamatsu Park, which was hardest hit by the earthquake. The artist who created Tetsujin 28 in 1956 (later making it into a TV series in 1963) is originally from Kobe. Set in the then distant year 2000, this radio-controlled robot was used by boy detective Shotaro Kaneda to battle criminals.
