Ah yes, Delia Ketchum. AKA Hanako [ハナコ] to the Japanese fans. Every hormonal male fan's favorite PokéMom, making better use of her son's Totodile while he's out looking for more new monsters to train and ditch.
A while back, I helped out Shoxxe with something minor and he was feeling mighty generous. I threw a request up in the air (specified about I dunno...everything) and forgot about it for a while. Then this pretty little number showed up.
As soon as I rushed home from work, I set to color it of course.
In certain forums I usually birched and complained about how disappointing I found the full diving equipment in the Pokemon series (see Mantine Overboard) which was why I requested a type of design to use.
The reference colors I used came from Episode 18 on her swimsuit. Green was the main color used for her suit and gear.
Since the "accidental" coloring of Murrue, I figured to use the same Sugimori-esque coloring conventions as they'd be much more suiting for this piece. Just look at how Totodile turned out. Pleasant, just pleasant.
The underwater background is eased up so the colors can be seen better.

Hell, 2 seconds after Hilda's character art was shown HUNDREDS of pictures of her were made on both sides.

It did say on Bulbapedia that she wonted to be a model of dress and swimsuits but but had to give up on it jest as Ash was born.

Well I can't EXACTLY rule that out, as there is supplementary material Takeshi Shudo and other staff that worked on the anime left behind.

Ah yes, I've noticed you have similar tastes for diving gear.
Good man.
Even though nowadays "The Mask" has taken over my commissions for Shoxxe, that doesn't mean scuba doesn't have a place in my heart. People just draw the wrong gear most of the time ^_^

Yeah, I love diving gear, and sometimes I like mixing Pokemon involved, like this: [link] (I like showing off my character's faces while diving, so I make my apparatuses either full-face or helmets). Sometimes I may draw my characters wearing a bathing suit while wearing that diving gear, or in that piece, I may have dress like the Pokemon they want to catch or emulate

To me, both SCUBA and spacesuits are in my heart, as well, but I like my approach to be simple and enjoyable.

Well that's stylistic. Always thought Pokemon could use some full face masks... but you didn't hear it from me.
I'm in that camp of full face masks and space-aged diving helmets myself. Though usually it'd be paired with a bathing suit or form fitting short sleeved wetsuit, even clothed scuba can be cute. As for space it depends, form fitting spacesuits and helmets are fine but sometimes I'd just be content to slap a fishbowl on someone's head even if they don't change their clothes.
I'm completely aware of the laws of physics in the case of water pressure put the effectiveness of a full face mask under seriously question or how the depths of space have vacuums that would tear your body apart and radiation that would screw up your bones... I just think there's a degree where realism spoils my fun.

Yeah, clothed SCUBA can be cute, which is why I try modifying it here and there (and, like I said, I use a combo of face masks and helmets). And with space stuff, I like to make stylish outfits that look great.
You know, sometimes you gotta say "nuts" to realism: it impedes art skills and overall fun
Now, as for this piece, I love Delia: anyone who has to raise her negligent son's Pokemon is okay by me. Plus, her body looks great!

Well you said he inked the picture, but the truth is that it's 100% pencil. It doesn't look it but when you look at his art in high resolution you actually can make out the "draft" lines.
Having colored different artist's work, the Magic Wand tool doesn't necessarily comply with Shoxxe's linework as easily as the other artists I've commissioned but I still like coloring his stuff the best.

Oh, that's pencil? Boy, that's a lot of lead that's been rubbed into the pencil, and I didn't know that. Nevertheless, that has to be a lot of fun to color and deal with in spite of the technical difficulties, right?
My approach is to make a rough layout and then try to ink it with an ink pen, since my pencil skills and physical handicap make doing stuff like that a problem.
