Haha! Yes I know what u mean I've been like dude u do know all of him was deformed right? That's partially why I love ur wrk so much-u really do try 2 stay true 2 the original look of Erik. Also I didn't officially understand what a Mary Sue was until about 5 days ago...and I heard the phrase over 7 years ago!Β

I once read one where some girl in modern timesΒ happened to encounter a surprisingly intact and alive Gerik. Of course she took him under her wing and they fell in love, but the kicker is that in the storyΒ his deformity was caused by mold from under the opera house, and it healed and left him basically perfect looking.

I read a good fanfic with a girl with two different eyes, teeths like a vampire and really long black hair braided over one Eye. She has a sarcastic humor and is kind to animals.
(Sorry if my english is not the best ^.^")

I think these mary sue creators have only ever heard of gerik, you know, the super idealized gerad butler version of erik that wold make leroux throw tables.

Mary-Sues are spineless, uncreative Original Characters (If you can even call them that)Β with no personality and their onlyΒ 'traits'Β being the sweetest most kindest woman in the world with a perfect figure and everything they're usually an image of the creator in someway if not just ... spineless. Its sad really, because good OCs get mixed with these repulsive creations all the time! Just because a female OC has a big bust or is beautiful doesn't make them a Mary-Sue, the tiniest of 'mistakes' doesn't make them a mary-sue it all depends if they have an actual personality and how much effort the creator put into them. Fanfics can get really horrible though...Β

With that author note, you need to have this version of Erik giving a critique about his fan fiction self before going on a murderous and rage-fill rampage

Mary Sue isn't actually the term used for a perfect character, as everybody seems to think. But rather, the term used for a cliche character.
Just a random tidbit of information.

I've never read a Mary-Sue story and I don't feel like suffering through it.
But I wonder if I should be talking. I'm still unsure whether my character who I've paired with Erik is a Mary-Sue or not.

In all fairness, I think Erik would be thrilled if legions of people who didn't mind his hideousness showed up.

Awesome drawing and so true. However, I must confess, I'm guilty of that, but back in high school and long before I was ever on the internet. All copies were destroyed. In my version though Erik had been turned into a vampire by Christine, who had been turned by Raoul, who's own vampire creator was one of the many prostitutes he visited. (I figured Raoul being a vampire could be the only logical reason Christine would go off with him.) Raoul was cruel and sadistic and eventually killed Christine who had turned Erik in hopes of being rescued. Then forward to the 1990s where Erik's living under my high school and falling for fat little high school me, while Raoul becomes one of my teachers and tries to woo me just because he knows it tortures Erik so.
So glad I threw every copy away. Though had I known that one day things like Pride & Prejudice & Zombies would be so popular I probably would've did some heavy edits and try to get it published instead. LOL

Ah, I think the movie may have a bit to blame on that, seeing as Gerard Butler plays him and in that only half his face is deformed (mostly because having a full mask in a movie would be a cinematic nightmare) But then, I don't think even in the movie the deformation is as horrifying a she made it out to be. but then, he is from a different time period.
And while I read the book and saw the musical (best birthday presant. EVER.) I myself prefer the movie.

Oh my god, thank you for this. You know what I saw on Youtube the other day? Someone saying they don't like the stage versions as much as the 2004 movie because Erik is too ugly and he's better being attractive like he is in the 2004 movie. Hello, Erik being ugly is the entire point of his character.
π: 0 β©: 1
Melancholy-Meloy In reply to Breezetail [2012-05-19 07:37:29 +0000 UTC]
I can understand that irritation. XD I prefer the movie because - don't kill me - i like the singing better in it than the stage production, though I do love both. I think younger audiences would be more attracted the less, er... warbling singing in the film. It is rather off putting at first.
π: 0 β©: 1
Breezetail In reply to Melancholy-Meloy [2012-05-19 14:18:41 +0000 UTC]
I can actually understand that. The singing in the movie is just alright in my opinion, and you're right about younger audiences probably being put off by the stage production's singing. I just really don't like that fans of the 2004 movie would call the stage production's Erik "too ugly" when in reality he's supposed to look like a living corpse.

Melancholy-Meloy In reply to Breezetail [2012-05-19 14:23:14 +0000 UTC]
Indeed. I own both extended soundtracks and think my preference for the film version stems purely from my age when I saw it, and that fact that I heard/saw it first. And yes, the too ugly bit is irritating, but is something younger audiences with a new love for the musical will have to reconcile with their love for the character. And, admittedly, some people are sadly too vain to understand it is the point.
On an unrelated note, the cat in your avatar is adorable.

In my story, my OC is as crazy, if not more as Erik, and deforms herself to prove she is not Erik (everyone thinks she is a black haired yellow-green eyed man) and once she sees Erik' face, her heart has three feelings: one) fear as she examines his features, two) pity as she can tell this has had an effect on him and three) confusion, due to her self inflicted deformity and mental instability she became Erik's pupil as the future OG. She's not a...*shiver* Mary-Sue, is she?
